Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland (LLR) Local Services
Across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland (LLR) we deliver specialist services for children, young people and adults with a visual impairment and those who are deafblind. We also provide support to families and carers and advice/training to professionals. These services are all delivered under the name LLR Sensory Services. The support we offer includes:
- Registration of sight impairment and dual sensory loss
- Rehabilitation support to build independent living skills
- Mobility training to support safe, independent travel
- Equipment advice, provision and demonstrations
- Information and guidance on benefits, practical advice and local services
- One‑to‑one support at home or in the community
- Support and training with technology
- Opportunities to take part in social and leisure activities
Support for children and families:
- Social and leisure activities for children and their families
- Habilitation support to help children develop independence and life skills
Our Services
LLR Sensory Services
We provide specialist advice, support, assessments and training to children, young people and adults with a sight impairment and those who are deafblind, alongside support for their family/carers. This support is available across Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland. Within this service, we also provide Day Opportunities, support with technology, meet ups and children/young people’s support as detailed below.
Day Opportunities
Through our LLR Sensory Services we offer personalised Day Opportunities support to help you achieve your goals. Support can include helping you take part in social activities and attend appointments, ensuring communication is fully accessible, and helping you get about safely.
Tech Together
Helping people with sight loss across LLR to gain confidence using phones, tablets, smart speakers and accessibility features, with friendly, step‑by‑step guidance for everyday tasks.
Meet Ups
Friendly coffee mornings for people with visual impairments across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. Enjoy a chat, a cuppa and connection in a relaxed, welcoming space. Come alone or with someone, no pressure, just friendly support.
Children & Young People’s Services
Across LLR we support children and young people with visual impairment and their families from diagnosis onward. Offering guidance, skills, activities and reassurance, we help build confidence, connections, independence.
Information Library
Explore our library for easy-to-use resources covering topics such as health and wellbeing, Access to Work, communication tips, basic BSL signs and more.
Designed for people who are sight impaired, deaf or hard of hearing as well as families, carers, professionals, employers, and community groups.
