Independent Living

We offer advice and support to help you live safely and independently in your own home and community.

Our local teams are based across the Midlands, north and east of England. We can provide support in person and remotely, for example, by telephone or video call based on your preferences. Support available varies in each region, please contact your local team to find out more.

Housing support & tenancy

If you’re D/deaf, hard of hearing, have a visual impairment or are deafblind our local teams can give advice and support with housing applications, tenancy issues, and housing-related needs including support contacting utility providers and accessing wider services.

Staying safe in your own home

We provide advice to help you stay safe and independent at home. We can help you choose the right equipment and connect you with other services for extra support. Our Information Library also has lots of accessible resources that you may find useful.

Specialist equipment for use within the home

We can help you understand the types of equipment available to you, help you access specialist equipment and provide training on how to use it.

Orientation and mobility training

Our specialist staff provide orientation and mobility training enabling individuals to remain independent and safe in their own home and in their local community. We also provide practical, social and emotional support and help people develop skills and knowledge to maintain their home themselves including daily living skills.

Assistive technology

We offer advice, training and access to equipment and technology to help people who are D/deaf, hard of hearing, or have sight loss live more independently and stay connected. Our local teams can help you find equipment and technology to suit your needs.

Care homes and supported living

We have a 7 bedroom property in Birmingham for people who are deaf and need some level of assistance towards independence living. We also have a Care Home for people who are deaf with additional needs, such as learning disability, autism, mental health and/or deaf/blindness. Birmingham only.

Communicator Guide Service (Leeds only)

We offer a programme of one to one support to individuals affected by dual sensory loss, deafblindness or sight loss helping them to access their local and wider community for social and leisure activities, appointments or assisting with letters and telephone calls.
