Volunteer Befriender – Boston
Location: Boston, Lincolnshire
Service: Lincolnshire Sensory Service
Time commitment: To be able to volunteer for 1-2 hours every week or fortnight.
Would you like to support people who are feeling lonely and isolated by becoming a volunteer befriender?
What will I be doing?
Providing company and friendship to people with a sensory loss in Boston who are feeling isolated and lonely. When visiting someone once every week or fortnight you can chat over a cup of tea, share hobbies or interests, go for a local walk or join local groups together.
What availability and time commitment is required?
To be able to volunteer for 1-2 hours every week or fortnight.
What skills and experience do I need?
- Approachable and able to build rapport with others.
- Patient, caring and empathetic.
- Good communication skills
- BSL level 2 or higher, not essential but would be required when befriending people who are Deaf.
What support and training will I receive?
We will provide a local induction and initial training before you begin your volunteer role. During your induction you will be provided information about our organisation and given access to our policies and procedures. Our volunteer handbook is available with all the information relevant to volunteering within our organisation.
We provide regular support for all volunteers including having a nominated staff member. The nominated staff member will supervise your volunteering and regularly have catch ups with you about your volunteering. You will also receive ongoing training and development whilst volunteering with us.
Expenses
We aim to reimburse volunteer expenses, including travel expenses whilst volunteering with us.
