Personal Independence Payment (PIP)

PIP provides extra money for people with disabilities or long-term health conditions who need help with daily living or getting around. It’s not means-tested and helps cover extra care or mobility costs.

Universal Credit

This is paid monthly and is for people of working age on a low income or out of work. It can help with living and housing costs if you’re looking for work, unable to work due to illness or disability, working on a low income, or have caring responsibilities.

Discounted Travel

If you are deaf, hard of hearing, have a visual impairment or are deafblind, and receive a means-tested benefit, you may be eligible for a Disabled Person’s Railcard. Not only do you save on your train fare, you can also use your Railcard to get discounts on restaurants and hotels.

Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)

You can apply for ESA if you have a disability or health condition that affects how much you can work. ESA could provide:

  • money to help with living costs if you’re unable to work;
  • support to get back into work if you’re able to.

You can apply if you’re employed, self-employed or unemployed.

Carers Allowance

You may be able to get this if you care for someone at least 35 hours per week and they get certain benefits. You do not have to be related to, or live with, the person you care for.

You do not get paid extra if you care for more than one person. If someone else also cares for the same person as you, only one of you can claim Carer’s Allowance.
