Changes to our Trustees

Changes to our Trustees

Our Board of Trustees are volunteers who offer insights and different perspectives that really help us to shape our charity and keep our values at the heart of everything we do. Our team has seen a few changes in the last few weeks, including two new members, a change in Chair and saying farewell to Sasha Lloyd as she embarks on a new journey!

Michael Price has been a part of BID Services’ team since 2001. Joining as a member of staff, Michael brought with him a breadth of experience and was an invaluable member of our staff team sharing his expertise in a variety of roles. In 2015, he joined our Board of Trustees as a volunteer became Chair in 2021. Now, as Michael steps down into the role of Vice-Chair, we welcome Matt Collingwood into the position of Chair!

A message from Michael:

“When I joined BID in June 2001 I had no idea I would still be around nearly a quarter of a century later. In that time BID has transformed itself from a small, Birmingham based charity supporting local deaf people to the organisation we are today, working with people with a full range of sensory impairments across the country. I feel privileged to have been part of that journey and thank everyone I have worked with whether colleague, supplier, commissioner or adviser for their part in this journey. I have every confidence that BID will continue to thrive under Matt Collingwood’s leadership and look forward to supporting Matt, the board and BID colleagues to ensure we continue to work with our service users successfully, however that may be defined.”

A message from our new Chair, Matt:

“On behalf of the entire Board and everyone at BID Services, I want to express our deepest thanks to Michael for his extraordinary commitment and leadership as Chair. Michael has been part of BID for more than 20 years, during which time he has served in countless roles, from leading Finance and IT as part of our senior leadership team, to serving as Trustee, Treasurer, and, most recently, our Chair.

Throughout his tenure, Michael has provided immense support to our CEO and senior leadership team and has been instrumental in shaping the charity we are today. He played a pivotal role in creating the Deaf Cultural Centre, working closely with contractors and architects to bring this phenomenal building to life, and he led the successful launch of our services in Leeds, no small achievement.

Michael is often described as a balanced, thoughtful, and highly respected leader, and above all, someone with a big heart who genuinely cares for our colleagues, our service users, and the impact of our work nationally.

As he steps down as Chair to become our Vice-Chair, we recognise the huge contribution he has made to BID. Michael, on behalf of us all, thank you for your dedication, and your years of outstanding service, your shoes as Chair will be very hard to fill.”

A message from our CEO, Gail:

“Michael’s support, commitment and guidance have been invaluable during his time with us, and I can’t even begin to count the number of hours that Michael has contributed in this volunteer role. Michael’s considered and thoughtful approach, coupled with his in-depth knowledge of BID and governance expertise has guided the charity through many challenging times, including the Covid pandemic.

Michael has led with thoughtfulness, care and compassion and truly embodies BID’s Values. I’m delighted that Michael won’t be bowing out completely and will remain as a trustee as he hands the batten over to Matt.

The AGM also saw a number of other changes as we said goodbye to Sasha Lloyd and welcomed Adam Breeze and Vic Younis, both of whom will bring experience, knowledge and expertise to the charity.”
