Training

Did you know 1 in 3 adults in the UK are deaf or hard of hearing? Our training helps bridge the gap, empowering confident communication and inclusion with deaf and hard of hearing customers, colleagues, and patients.

All sessions are led by experienced deaf tutors whose first language is British Sign Language (BSL), bringing lived experience and expert insight to every course.

British Sign Language Courses

All our BSL courses are taught in person at the Deaf Cultural Centre in Birmingham. With small class sizes of no more than 12 learners, you’ll benefit from more one-to-one time with your tutor.

Each qualification includes three assessments. Once completed, you’ll receive a recognised certificate by post, accredited by Signature.
Course fees include exam costs.

These courses cover a range of topics including: introducing yourself, greetings, fingerspelling the alphabet, animals, describing people, directions, food & drink, interests & hobbies, meeting people, transport, using numbers, dates and the weather.

BSL Level 1

Cost: £523.95 (£499 + 5% VAT)

Class time: 6pm – 9pm

Course length: 22 weeks (with breaks for half term)

New course starts Tuesday 13th January 2026

BSL Level 2

Cost: £782.25 (£745 + 5% VAT)

Class time: 6pm – 9pm

Course length: 34 weeks (with breaks for half term)

New course starts Thursday 15th January 2026

BSL Level 3

Cost: £1,101.45 (£1049 + 5% VAT)

Class time: 6pm – 9pm

Course length: 38 weeks (with breaks for half term)

For professionals

These training courses are aimed to help organisations communicate more effectively, and respond to the needs of D/deaf employees, customers and people accessing your services.

Deaf Awareness Training

This is a popular training session with employers, professionals and individuals. We offer a bespoke, interactive and engaging training session with our experienced Deaf tutors.

What is covered in this course?

  • Introduction to Deaf Culture, history and terminology
  • Awareness of communication barriers
  • Basic BSL greetings and fingerspelling
  • Effective communication methods
  • An insight into interpreter etiquette

Prices:

  • Online/remote training starting from £400 up to 12 people.
  • In-person training (Birmingham only) starting from £450 for up to 15 people.

Class duration: Approximately 3 hours.

Introduction to BSL

We can offer a tailored training course for organisations. Training can be done at your premises or at a venue of your choice (within Birmingham and surrounding areas).

What is covered in this course?

  • An introduction to BSL
  • Using simple language
  • Basic BSL signs
  • The importance of body language and facial expressions

Prices start from £1,600.

Course duration: 1.5 hours or 2 hours per week for 5 weeks.
