Youth Project Officer (Deaf/Hard of Hearing)

Location: Kirklees
Salary: £21,204 pro-rata per annum  
Hours: Part-time, 7.5 hours per week  
Contract Length: 12 months 

We are seeking a Youth Project Officer (Deaf /Hard of Hearing) to join our team to deliver innovative, high quality service to our young clients (16-24) who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Deafblind in Kirklees, helping them develop peer support groups, networks, knowledge and skills that will put them in good stead for living as independently as they can as adults and achieving their personal goals (e.g., employment, further education). As part of the role you will be:

  • Plan and develop a youth programme in a way that both the group and the individual’s needs are met ensuring a secure environment. E.g sporting activities, community projects, heritage and art-based activities.
  • Provide support, advocacy and information as well as individual advice and support to help them achieve their goals and access support
  • Continue with outreach work at various locations within Kirklees to promote the service
  • Administrative tasks including maintaining records, project reports
  • Managing volunteers

To be successful for this post you will have will have experience in working with young people with sensory disability preferably in a participation environment (e.g youth work, teaching or similar), have appropriate communication skills ( BSL Level 2) , will have a good understanding of the issues that Deaf and sensory impaired young people experience.
