This is an exciting volunteer opportunity for someone who would like to befriend vulnerable deaf, hard of hearing and deaf blind people living in the West Midlands. 

We are seeking people with free time and who may be unemployed, furloughed, working part time, students or people with free time of offer befriending support to vulnerable people including individuals, families and young people who may be experiencing isolation or lacking access to information regarding the current COVID-19 pandemic.

  • We are ideally looking for people already in receipt of a DBS check. Volunteers may include:
  • Profoundly deaf BSL users and people who can communicate using Deaf/Blind manual.
  • Hearing people with BSL Level 2 or above – students at university and night school learners welcome
  • Hearing people interested in engaging vulnerable hard of hearing people including elderly.

You will be supported and supervised by our team of Volunteer Coordinators and will be provided with full training, guidelines and PPE to ensure you and the service user stay safe.

Support may include but is not limited to:

  • Emotional support to reduce isolation and improve wellbeing
  • Providing access to essential information to stay safe
  • Support with shopping
  • Online and telephone support
