Deaf Elders Group Co-ordinator 

Location: Birmingham
Salary: £16,777 pro-rata per annum
Hours: Part-time 6 hours per week (Wednesdays)

Fixed term contract until 31 March 2021

Do you enjoy working with older people?

We are recruiting for an enthusiastic individual to join our small and friendly team in Birmingham to help us develop activities  and programmes for our Deaf Elders Group which meets every Wednesday in our community centre.

As part of the role , you will take the lead on developing appropriate activities and entertainment events , which are appropriate for elderly population.The service is supported by volunteers and the successful candidate will be expected to manage the volunteers and to work closely with them on the delivery of the activities. A key part of the role is to offer the volunteers mentoring, support and regular supervisions. As you will also be required to manage a small budget, experience in this are would be useful.The ideal candidate has:

  • Knowledge of the Deaf community 
  • Empathy and commitment to support the Elders Group
  • Ability to communicate in British Sign Language Level 2 standard
  • Ability to build close relationship with the Elders and to obtain their views and preferences regarding activities
  • Hands-on experience of working with older people
