Deaf Elders/Digital Group Co-ordinator 

Location: Birmingham and remote
Salary: £7043.85 per annum
Hours: Part-time 14 hours per week

Fixed term contract for 6 months

Do you enjoy working with older people?

We are recruiting for an enthusiastic individual to join our small and friendly team in Birmingham to develop activities  and programmes for our Deaf Elders Group which meets every Wednesday in our community centre and to plan and implement a new "Sign Digital" online service. Main responsibilities are (list is not exhaustive):

  • You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Deaf Elders Group, developing a range of activities and events based on the group's interests which are appropriate for elderly population. The service is supported by volunteers and you will be managing the volunteers and to work closely with them on the delivery of the activities, as well as offering the volunteers mentoring, support the regular supervisions.
  • To plan and implement a new "Sign Digital" service, supporting elderly Deaf individuals to develop basic digital skills, in both face-to-face sessions, video based learning and creating "How To" guides in accessible format, working closely with the  internal marketing team and ACCESS service.
  • To be responsible for promoting, planning and monitoring/evaluation for then project to manage the budget derived from  activities undertaken and ensure funds are recorded and managed based on sound financial practices.

To be successful for the role you will have an understanding of Deaf culture and Deaf issues within the community, experience in planning and co-ordinating activities, excellent IT skills including video conferencing. You will be qualified to BSL level 3 or a native sign language user, be able travel travel freely within the area of operations and have the flexibility to work evenings and weekends.
