Shaping Services Together

At BID Services, co-production is central to our work. By listening to people with lived experience and involving them in shaping, delivering and leading services, we ensure our support is relevant, inclusive and accessible.

Over the last year, our communities have helped strengthen services across the country. This commitment goes beyond consultation. More than 50% of our Trustees are deaf or hard of hearing, and around 30% of our staff are deaf, hard of hearing, sight impaired or deafblind, ensuring the expertise of our communities helps shape the organisation and service design and delivery at every level.

At Chesterberry, our residential care home, residents identified activities that mattered to them, resulting in a fundraising initiative raising funds to purchase a new snooker table and run a gardening project. In Birmingham, working with the Deaf Sisters Group has created a safe and welcoming space for women from underrepresented communities to connect, share experiences and influence future service development through consultation and feedback.

With support from the Milton Keynes Community Foundation, we expanded peer support opportunities across Milton Keynes for people with hearing impairments, providing practical information and demonstrations on topics chosen by participants, including assistive technology and communication support.

In Lincolnshire, feedback from families helped us grow our Chance to Meet service, delivering activities such as monthly tennis sessions and engaging more deaf families, including those from Eastern European communities.

Nationally, we worked with the Deaf community and leading health organisations to develop an accessible menopause information library featuring 48 British Sign Language (BSL) videos with subtitles and audio.

These examples show how coproduction helps us improve services, strengthen inclusion and ensure the support we provide reflects the needs, experiences and views of the people we serve.

Do you have feedback, ideas or suggestions? Please drop us a message to help shape our services and resources. We’d love to hear from you.
