Whilst Covid 19 continues to affect our everyday lives, we would like to reassure our services users that we are still open and here to help people living in Northumberland with a visual impairment.

We will continue to offer initial assessments remotely, via telephone or video call depending on your needs. From 6th April 2021, our office will be open, however, appointments must be pre-booked in advance with a member of the team. Alternatively, we can support you through home visits or we can offer support remotely via video call, email or telephone depending on your needs and preferences.

When carrying out face-to-face appointments, in line with government guidelines, our staff will wear PPE and risk assessments will be carried out ensuring the safety of you and our staff.

BID Services provides an assessment, rehabilitation and housing support service to adults living in Northumberland with a visual impairment. The service also supports young people aged 16 and over who are in transition.

The aim of this service is to provide a range of resources and practical support to enable people with a visual impairment to live as independently as possible in their own homes.

The service provides:

  • Specialist assessment of needs
  • Rehabilitation support
  • Signposting to other services
  • Orientation & mobility training
  • Information & advice on managing finances and welfare benefits
  • Housing related support
  • Advice and support on repair work
  • Identification & installation of VI aids and equipment
  • Help in establishign personal safety & security
  • Support to access community opportunities
  • Health & wellbeing

These services can be provided in your home, in the community or at our office, by appointment.
