New employment service to help people with hearing or sight loss find work in Lincolnshire

BID Services, a charity will be launching a new Remote Employment Service for people with a hearing or sight loss in Lincolnshire who are currently unemployed to help them find work.

The new service, which is funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) in partnership with Bishop Grosseteste University, will start this month. Specialist Sensory Employment Coaches will be working online with people who are deaf, deafened, hard of hearing as well as those with a visual impairment. They will be able to learn from home, how to create and update a CV, how to look for jobs and how to complete an application form as well as participate in interview practice. The aim of this is to help them continue to look for work in light of the coronavirus pandemic and local restrictions being in place.

BID Services has delivered an Employment Support programme for people with a sensory loss living in the West Midlands for nearly 10 years and supported over 800 people, with 300 so far finding work.

Mark Woodall, Manager of BID’s Employment Service, said:

This is an exciting opportunity for BID Services to be able to offer employment support to people with a hearing or sight loss in Lincolnshire. Sadly, there is a lack of awareness and understanding amongst Employers around sensory impairment. People with sensory loss often struggle to access employment and training opportunities due to a wide variety of barriers including communication and a lack of assistive technology. The charity plans to address these barriers to enable people with a sensory loss to find employment during these tough times”.

If you would like to find out more or use the new service, please get in touch with the Employment Team on lincsemployment@bid.org.uk or call them on 07783 809801.
