Coronavirus Update

Whilst Covid 19 continues to affect our everyday lives, we would like to reassure our services users that we are still open and here to help people living in Cumbria who are Deaf, hard of hearing or have a dual sensory impairment.

We will continue to offer initial assessments remotely, via telephone or video call depending on your needs. From 6th April 2021, our office in Penrith will be open, however, appointments must be pre-booked in advance with a member of the team. Alternatively, we can support you through home visits or we can offer support remotely via video call, email or telephone depending on your needs and preferences.

When carrying out face-to-face appointments, in line with government guidelines, our staff will wear PPE and risk assessments will be carried out ensuring the safety of you and our staff.

Getting in Touch
You can contact us in the usual way whether it be by phone, email, text or vide call and one our Technical Officers pick up the messages daily (Monday to Friday) and will deal with it accordingly.

BID Cumbria

Specialist Equipment Support Service

As part of our BID Cumbria (Equipment, Information, Advice and Support Service for Deaf/Hard of Hearing People) service, we offer a specialist equipment support service for deaf, hard of hearing and dual sensory impaired residents living in Cumbria. We also provide support to families, carers, professionals and other organisations, working together to improve the lives of Cumbrian residents.

The service supports people aged 18 and over as well as young people aged 16 and over transitioning from children's services.

We can offer support using a range of communication methods to suit your needs.

Services are carried out in the home, by appointment, during the following times.

Monday - Thursday from 9:00am - 5:00pm
Friday from 9:00am - 4:30pm

Our Services

Our experienced Technical Officers undertake assessments and where eligible, help people access equipment for use within the home. Assessments are carried out in the home by prior appointment only. Information available on request.

Specialist Equipment Support
Following an assessment and subject to Care Act eligibility, we can provide equipment such as pager systems, personal and domestic hearing loops, minicom equipment, home alerting systems and flashing doorbells.

Information, Advice and Support
