Coronavirus Update

We would like to reassure our service users that whilst we have to adapt the way we deliver our BID Cumbria service in line with Government’s guidelines, we are still able to offer high quality information, advice and support for deaf, hard of hearing and dual sensory impaired residents living in Cumbria.

You can continue to access our BID Cumbria service from the comfort of your own home . We will provide support over the phone, FaceTime, text, WhatsApp or email. We can also provide face-to-face support when essential. To find out how to get in touch, please view the contact details at the bottom of this page.

Face-to-face Support
When essential we will provide face-to-face support. These appointments will take place in line with government guidelines to ensure the safety of you and our staff. PPE will be worn and we will check in with you before your appointment to ensure you and those you live with do not have any symptoms of Covid 19 and are not self-isolating.

Our Cumbria office will remain open for essential services only. We will have limited staff on site for safety reasons and the office can only be accessed via an appointment system with an agreed date and time slot for appointments.

BID Cumbria

Information Advice and Support

As part of the BID Cumbria (Equipment, Information, Advice and Support Service for Deaf/Hard of Hearing People) service, we provide one to one confidential information, advice and support services across Cumbria. This service is delivered in association  with Cumbria County Council and is available to anyone over the age of 18 living in Cumbria who is Deaf, hard of hearing or who has a dual-sensory loss and their carers .

The information, advice and support we offer includes, but is not limited to: 

  • Welfare Benefits
  • Housing
  • Debt
  • Employment
  • Understanding and applying for Access to Work
  • Advice on consumer issues and community care
  • Access to Council services
  • Advice and support to access BSL Interpreting
  • Advice on access to legal services
  • Information regarding local/national services, activities, training and opportunities available.
  • Support to access social, leisure and community activities.

Through our information, advice and support service we will help you understand your rights and make informed choices and decisions. Our service will:

  • Be delivered using your preferred method of communication e.g. British Sign Language, spoken English, Sign Supported English
  • Focus on improving your wellbeing and quality of life
  • Be person centred, tailored to your individual needs
  • Focus on delivering the outcomes you need and helping you maximise your independence
  • Help you take control of your life and make informed choices
  • Be flexible in response to your individual and changing needs
