Children & Young People

The Children and Young People Service is an integral part of BID Services’ provision for the communities we serve.  The core purpose is supporting the education, personal and social development of children and young people to enable them to reach their full potential and make a successful transition into adult life.  We aim to provide consistent and appropriate support to young people whilst effectively addressing their needs such as helping them to make informed choices about their lives without worrying about language or cultural barriers.

We currently provide children and young people’s services in Birmingham and Lincolnshire as outlined below.

Birmingham Services

Thanks to funding from Children in Need, we run a number of term time and non-term time activities for deaf children and young people aged 8 - 18 and their siblings.

Holiday Activities

We organise a number of holiday activities for deaf children and their siblings. Activities range from climbing, sailing, eco work, volunteering with the National Trust, jungle challenge, tobogganing, orienteering and so much more!

Youth Work

We run a weekly youth club for young deaf people, from 8 - 14 years old. The youth club launched in October 2014 and runs every Wednesday, from 4:30pm - 6pm during term time.

For 14 - 18 year olds, we meet every Wednesday from 6:30pm - 7:30pm for our Code Club, an information environment to learn the necessary skills involved in creating websites, online games and animations.

Lincolnshire Services

Chance to Meet Activities

We provide regular activities for children and young people with all sensory impairments. The types of activities we organise range from Easter and Christmas parties, picnics, visits to local farm parks, activity play centres, bowling and sessions with local and national disability sports organisations. Wherever possible our activities are inclusive for children and young people with all sensory impairments.

Parent Forums – Hearing Impairment

We run Parent Forums every two months in conjunction with NDCS. These give parents and carers an opportunity to discuss topics relating to their child’s health, education and social care support within Lincolnshire.

Deaf Youth Club

We host a youth club which provides an opportunity for young people to mix with their peers who attend mainstream schools within Lincolnshire and also those who are at residential schools in Derby, Doncaster and Boston Spa. From the feedback from the young people themselves they find this a valuable opportunity to build relationships with their peers.

Information & Advice

We can give advice and signpost into other services. Because of working closely with other families, we can also connect family members together, so first hand experiences with another parent, carer, sibling, aunt, uncle or grandparent can be shared.
