Youth Services

Currently we are awaiting funding for us to be able to offer a full Youth Service.  In the meantime please contact us at info@bid.org.uk for further information.

The Youth Service provides young people aged 11 to 25 with a range of enjoyable opportunities and challenging experiences.  It also offers effective support that enhances their personal, social and educative development, and helps grant a sense of identity during the transition to adulthood.  The values and principles that lie at the heart of effective youth work shape our relationships – Educate, Participate, Empowerment and Equality of opportunity.

The Youth Service provides young Deaf people with access to the Youth Club, as well as facilitating events and interest groups chosen by young people.

At all times young Deaf people are consulted about their needs, empowering them to make choices and to educate themselves and their peers.

The Service also looks to work with other Youth Organisations to promote Deaf Awareness within young people, and the wider community.

Involving Young Deaf People

For many, the Youth Service provides the central hub of a social life with people using the same language, British Sign Language, and living the same lives.

The Youth Service has supported young Deaf people be elected to the UK Youth Parliament and aided the selection young Deaf person to UNICEF’s youth committee.

By involving the young Deaf people a varied and interesting programme of events has been enjoyed, such as the 1st Gear scheme, involving group participation with motor vehicle skills, and several bilateral youth exchanges with countries such as Sweden, Denmark and Spain.
