Few people are aware of the impact Deafness and being hard of hearing can have on a person's ability to understand and cope with aspects of everyday life.
Things that most hearing people take for granted - financial management, understanding the obligations of tenancy agreements and rent payments, or facilitating much needed repairs - can seem extremely complicated and become difficult to cope with for some Deaf individuals.
By working closely with stakeholders, such as Local Authority and Health Teams and Deaf and hard of hearing individuals, BID's Supporting People and Supported Living Schemes provide tailored support to those who need it, with the aims of improving quality of life whilst maintaining independence.
BID believes that it is important to provide support to Deaf and hard of hearing people in order that they can have a good quality of life.
In some extreme cases Deaf people have lost their homes through what is no more than a lack of communication, poor access to services or other problems that are not understood, but can be easily resolved. By working with the Deaf clients and relevant stakeholders, BID's Supporting People Team helps reduce such problems and looks to the long-term enhancement of client lives.
