BID understands that Deaf people should have a quality of life that anyone expects as a right.
For this reason, BID has a range of accommodation for Deaf clients who have additional needs. All of our homes have the latest technology, enabling residents to live independently and realise their maximum potential.
Our Residential Homes' first language is British Sign Language. However, we also promote the need to communicate in each individual's preferred method. By doing this, BID is able to meet both the communication and cultural needs of each resident.
Our homes are staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year - by both hearing and Deaf people. Staff are professionally trained, come from a range of backgrounds and cultures, and give the residents positive Deaf role models.
Most importantly, staff support each resident in pursuit of as independent a life as possible.
Each resident has an individually tailored care plan which is sensitive to their cultural and holistic needs and carried out in conjunction with an allocated key worker.
All of our Residential Homes are fully furnished, and residents are encouraged to decide how their homes are decorated. Residents can also pursue their own hobbies and interests, with the full support of the staff and community resources where required.
All residents are given a chance to develop their potential, working
alongside individual care plans and risk assessments which are reviewed
on a regular basis. Residents regularly engage with local services to
enhance their life skills and develop links with the community. They
also have access to the new Deaf Cultural Centre and all of the
facilities and events that it provides.
Most importantly, the residents have fun whilst learning and benefit from developing new interests and skills.
