Interpreting

BID's Interepreting Service provides reliable, effective and quality communication support to Deaf people and a range of professional organisations.

All of our interpreting services are delivered by highly trained language service professionals who are sensitive and flexible to client and customer needs.

The Interpreting team cover a diverse range of appointments, bridging communication gaps between Deaf and hearing people by acting as an effective communication channel and helping establish an appropriate communication flow.

British Sign Language 

We provide Signature level 1, 2 and 3 in British Sign Language (BSL) courses in BID. The courses are in partnership with Sutton Coldfield College.

BID Services offer a BSL Level 1 course for those wishing to develop conversational skills, an intermediate BSL level 2 course for those who wish to continue to develop their communication to include a range of everyday topics and a BSL level 3 course for those wishing to progress to a career within the Deaf community.

There are other courses that we do provide, these are Deaf Awareness, Introduction to Deafness and Bespoke courses.

How to use an interpreter

British Sign Language to English Interpreters are a vital link in communication between Deaf and hearing people. To help you get the most out of using an interpreter we have put together some helpful hints;

Speak at a steady regular pace, too fast the interpreter may not able to keep up. Too slow or waiting for the interpreter to catch up is not helpful as they may need a whole message before it can be translated.

Level 1 Award in BSL

The qualification is designed to enable learners to communicate with Deaf people in BSL on a range of topics that involve basic everyday language use. Candidates must achieve all three units below for the full qualification.

Level 2 Award in BSL

Level 2 Award in BSL

This qualification is designed to enable learners to develop an ability to communicate with deaf people using BSL in a range of familiar contexts, e.g. 'About you', 'Eating and Drinking', 'Shopping and Spending' and 'Travel'. Candidate must achieve all three units below for the full qualification.

Level 3 Certificate in BSL
