News BID Services achieves Investing in Volunteers Award

In recognition of achieving Investing in Volunteers in April 2010, BID Services is hosting an Awards Evening on Tuesday, 20th July, at its Deaf Cultural Centre in Ladywood. The event will be attended by the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Birmingham, who have chosen BID Services as one of the charities they will fundraise for during their term in office.

The event will mark our success in achieving Investing in Volunteers but will also serve as a thank-you to the dedicated and hard-working volunteers who have given their time to BID over the past five years. BID's volunteers play a crucial role by providing support to Deaf people through a range of activities, such as facilitating the Deaf Men's Health Group, preventing isolation by making home visits, helping with shopping and offering simple friendship.

BID Services provide a range of training opportunities to its volunteers including Safeguarding and other relevant training. Many of BID's volunteers go on to secure employment at BID Services or at other organizations’ and find that volunteering provides them with a valuable and rewarding experience.

BID's Operations Director, Jo-Ann Moyles says:

"The hard work and commitment we have made to support our volunteer service has been rewarded by achieving the Investing in Volunteers award. The Awards Evening will recognise the contributions made by our volunteers who, through their efforts, enrich the lives of others and play an important part in the delivery of our services. We are currently supported by over 30 volunteers who come from a range of backgrounds and cultures and who contribute a great deal to making our volunteer service what it is today".
