10 Years Younger
bid services are organising a ‘10 Years Younger’ event at the Deaf Cultural Centre on Saturday 18th July from 10am to 4pm. Its aim is to provide accessible information to deaf women on personal grooming, cosmetics, jewellery, fashion, nutrition and more. Hearing family and friends are welcome to this one-off event. The day is expected to attract people from far and wide, not just the local area and has been funded by the University of Birmingham’s student fundraising scheme.
There will be exhibition stalls, speakers, workshops and an opportunity to have a 1-1 expert consultation. The activities will be led by both hearing and deaf women. Admission price is £5.00 and tickets will be on sale from now until Friday 17th July. Lunch and refreshments will be provided and there will be a sign language interpreter available.
Deaf people can often experience difficulties in communication and find it more difficult to access information on their health and well being, therefore this event aims to give them an opportunity to access information easily from other deaf people themselves or via an interpreter.
The event organiser, Kathryn Dolby, is delighted to have the opportunity to host such a special event and she says ‘This event is important for deaf women with varying degrees of hearing loss. It will give them confidence when accessing information and enable them to have a greater awareness of caring for their well-being. It is rare that such a wide range of information and advice is tailored towards deaf women and this offers them an opportunity to share the experience with family and friends’. Kathryn has a team of helpers planning the day from the Deaf Women’s Health Group who meet regularly at the Deaf Cultural Centre.
