Help to make a Hawaiian half term

Local charity, BID Services with Deaf people, is seeking the support of local community members and businesses to set up a Hawaiian half term for Deaf children and young adults across the second city.

To make the themed half term activities possible the charity is looking for community members to donate or lend Hawaiian shirts, grass skirts, inflatable palm trees and a surf simulator to transform the Deaf Cultural Centre, based in Ladywood, Birmingham, into a beach resort.

The choice of theme has been the result of, or perhaps lack of, any real summer weather this year.  ‘As there wasn’t much sun this summer we thought we would try to make our own bit of good weather this half term.’ Commented Kelly Stevens from BID.

Setting up the event and finding all of the materials that are needed has proven a little more difficult than first thought and Kelly is hoping the kindness of the local community will help make it happen, she continued; ‘We don’t have very much of a budget for the event so we haven’t been able to hire or buy anything in.  It would be great if we can get people to support us because they would really be making the half term happen for the kids we work with.’

Anyone who is interested in donating an item and supporting BID’s Hawaiian half term can contact Kelly for details of the event on:
