Current Projects — Heritage Project — HLF Summer Blog
The text below is the statement made in the video above.
Hello and welcome back to this blog!
It’s been some time and a lot has happened. I will explain what we have been up to.
John Hay and Lisa Davies have been running some workshops. John himself delivered a talk to the children from Braidwood School and taught them all about Deaf history, especially famous people and also how Birmingham changed throughout history. One Deaf elder visited the school and shared his experience of his working life and parts of his story will be on the DVD!
Lisa Davies spent some time with the children teaching them how to use a camera, exploring different angles to be shot. They learned and practised interviewing techniques for the Deaf Elders when they were filmed for this project. They also developed a storyboard for the filming sequences to be edited into an interesting video.
Once we completed the workshops, the children and Deaf Elders then went out to the Black Country Living Museum, a place where history still exists from Victorian times to the 1960s. Old houses and streets brought back memories for the Deaf Elders, the perfect setting for the children to interview them. The Elders had some lovely stories to us! Everyone enjoyed the visit.
After that, we filmed on location at Walsall Leather Museum and also the Jewellery Quarter Museum, interviewing a couple of Deaf Elders. It’s been a busy time for many of us!
I will give you more details and information next time!
