Hello and welcome back for an update on what's been happening with our project.
We arranged afternoon tea for deaf elders. They had tea, sandwiches and cakes and reminisced about past experiences. It was interesting and most of them talked about the war.
I spent some time explaining to the elders about the project. A student from Braidwood School will be interviewing the deaf elders and recording their stories - this will be used to create a DVD for generations of the future! Afternoon tea was enjoyed by all who attended.
I am in the process of arranging a workshop with the students from Braidwood School. John Hay, a local deaf historian, will be teaching the students all about deaf history, industrial Birmingham and how to interview the elders.
Following the workshop we are planning to take the students to Birmingham central library to visit the local history service. Izzy Mohammed will give them a tour of the archives and explain how information is collected and stored at the library.
We will also be setting up another workshop at Braidwood School with Lisa Davies, Multimedia Production Officer at bid services and also Philip Bailey, himself a teacher at Braidwood School. The student will be learning how to make a storyboard, use the video equipment and edit the films they make. They will then be able to make an exciting film!
If you have your own experiences of what it was like to be a deaf person during the 1920's to 1940's, contact me via telephone or email or if you know of someone else like a family member, colleague or friend who may like to share their memories, they are welcome!
Thank you for watching this.
