Experience being a Deaf Person

If you are a hearing person using ear plugs for a day it is an interesting way to find out more about what it is like to be deaf . It is worth remembering that having ear plugs on for the day will not make you fully deaf but will allow you to experiene quite a high degree of hearing loss.

During your experience it will be a good idea to write down any barriers that you face, communications difficulties you have or situations where you have wanted to remove the ear plugs to make things easier.

You can also write down examples of positive experiences; perhaps thinking of new ways to communicate to effectivly get your message across.

When being deaf for a day it is also worth remebering that as a hearing person you will be able to remove the ear plugs and reagain your hearing, an opportunity that thousands of people across the UK do not have.

It is also essential to remember to inform your family and freinds before trying this so that you have someone to support you.  Loosing a sense, even for a day, will have a big impact and your safety should be considered at all times.
